Falls Hotel & Spa Generates 5 Million kWh of Clean Hydro-Electric Power

The Falls Hotel & Spa in Ennistymon has reached a major green energy milestone, having generated 5 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of clean electricity through its on-site hydro-electric turbine.
The hotel, which is located on the banks of the River Inagh, installed the hydro system in 2018 to power its operations sustainably. The renewable energy generated to date is equivalent to powering over 1,200 Irish homes for a year and has significantly reduced the hotel’s carbon footprint.
The Falls Hotel & Spa has been certified carbon neutral since 2021, demonstrating its ongoing commitment to sustainability. In addition to the hydro scheme, the hotel which is a proud member of the Burren Eco tourism Network, recently installed 90 solar panels to further expand its use of renewable energy. Its long-term ambition is to become electrically self-sufficient, making it one of the most environmentally responsible hotels in Ireland.

The Falls Hotel & Spa has already been recognised for its environmental initiatives, having previously been awarded the SEAI Innovative Deployment of Renewable Energy Awards, Climate Hero Award from RTE. The hotel is Eco-label accredited from GreenHospitality.ie and certified a carbon neutral property by GreenMark.ie through Green Hospitality Ireland.
These achievements further position the hotel as one of Ireland’s leading eco-conscious destinations, offering guests not only luxury and relaxation but also the assurance that their stay contributes to a more sustainable future.
